How much weight can I put in a dump trailer?

Dirt or Topsoil

Dirt or topsoil can vary quite a bit when it comes to weight, primarily because of the moisture that can affect the weight.

  • 1 yard of dry dirt or topsoil weight: 2,100~ pounds
  • 1 yard of wet dirt or topsoil weight 3,000~ pounds
So for a Dump Trailer that has a payload capacity of 10,000 pounds, you can take roughly 3-5 yards, depending on if it is wet or dry.

It is always safe to go on the lower end of that.

Branches or Stick

A full trailer of sticks, branches or stumps can vary quite a bit depending on type of tree and size of what you are putting in there.

From our experience, a full dump trailer of sticks, branches and some stumps you are typically in the 3,000-5,000 pound range.

Our dump trailers can more then handle this amount of weight.

Garbage or Junk

As with all the other things you can haul with a dump trailer it all depends on what you are hauling.

Based on our experience, a dump trailer that has regular household junk from a spring cleaning, you are typically only 2,000-3,000 pounds.

The dump trailers that we rent can help make your cleanup jobs easier and quicker.
